Zhejiang Women's Federation (ZWF) is a people's organization of women of all ethnic groups and from all walks of life in Zhejiang Province, under the leadership of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party（CPC） of China, united for further emancipation and development. It serves as a bridge linking the Party and the government with women and as an important social pillar of the state power.

Founded in November 1949, it was originally named "Zhejiang Democratic Women's Federation" and renamed "Zhejiang Women's Federation" in 1957.

To date, fifteen Provincial Women's Congresses have been convened. Grounded in its functional orientation of leading, serving and connecting with women, the ZWF takes uniting and guiding women of all ethnic groups and from all walks of life to unswervingly follow the Party as its political responsibility, focusing on the central tasks and serving the country’s overall interests as its main work line, connecting with and serving women as its fundamental task, and representing and safeguarding women's rights and interests, as well as promoting gender equality and the all-round development of women as its basic functions. Its main responsibilities are:

1. Adhere to the political consciousness, advanced nature, and orientation toward the people of the women's federation organization and its work；unite and guide women across the province to steadfastly follow women's development path with Chinese characteristics in accordance with the Party's lines, principles, policies, and the central tasks for each period, as well as the directives and decisions of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the All China Women's Federation(ACWF); mobilize women to be builders of great causes, advocates of civilized manners, and strivers daring to pursue dreams, playing a positive role in advancing the Five-Sphere Integrated Plan and the Four-Pronged Comprehensive Strategy in a coordinated manner, and striving to realize the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.

2. Provide guidance to women's federations at all levels in the province for women and children’s work according to the law and the articles of association; implement the resolutions of the Provincial Women's Congress; and maintain contact with and provide operational guidance to member organizations.

3. Conduct investigations and research on the situations and issues concerning women and children in the province, and report findings and suggestions to the CPC provincial committee and the provincial government of Zhejiang, and the All China Women's Federation in a timely manner.

4. Advocate Marxist view of women, promote the implementation of the fundamental national policy of gender equality, create an environment of respect and care and in favor of women's all-round development; educate and guide women to practice core socialist values, cultivate a spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement,  strengthen overall competence and realize all-round development; give full play to women's unique role in social and family life, and promote the formation of new trends in socialist family civilization; publicize and honor outstanding women role models, and nurture and recommend women talents.

5. Represent women in democratic consultation, decision-making, management and supervision of state and social affairs; participate in the formulation of laws, regulations, rules and policies concerning women and children; safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of women and children; and promote women's participation in political affairs.

6. Consolidate and expand the great unity of women of all ethnic groups and from all walks of life; strengthen exchanges and cooperation with women in Hong  Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan, as well as with overseas Chinese women; and actively develop friendly interactions with women and women's organizations worldwide to promote friendship and cooperation.

7. Undertake the work of the Working Committee on   Children and Women under the provincial government of Zhejiang.

8. Undertake other tasks assigned by the CPC provincial committee and the provincial government of Zhejiang.
